Project Sweet Peas
Project Sweet Peas is a nonprofit organization run by volunteers across the country, who provide comfort to families with children in the intensive care units and to those who have experienced pregnancy and infant loss. (more than 400,000 babies / year are treated in NICU) Programs support the wellness of families by providing care packages and other services that offer comfort while furthering the bond between parent and child, and treasured keepsakes to families who have experienced a loss. DoJiggy funds will be used to distribute “My Sweet Pea’s NICU Journal” giving parents a place to track baby’s stats, record thoughts, and share milestones. These journals become invaluable resources to the families that receive them as they are often feeling fear and helplessness watching their babies fight for their lives.
Give Hope, Fight Poverty
Give Hope, Fight Poverty (GHFP) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to foster philanthropy domestically by designing service-learning programs that engage US students and professionals with communities abroad. Working together, they strive to educate, empower and lift orphaned and vulnerable children out of poverty. GHFP built an elementary school to offer free education to HIV orphaned children in Sawziland (this area has the world’s highest HIV prevalence with aids related deaths creating more than 120K orphans). This school will offer 1st-7th grade education to 250 students per year. Funds from the DoJiggy grant will go towards providing electricity needed for a computer literacy program. The grant will wire the new classrooms and purchase pre-paid electricity vouchers to enable the school to run the computers.
Mental Health America of Fredericksburg
Mental Health America of Fredericksburg (MHAF) is the community’s oldest nonprofit organization, which addresses all aspects of mental health and mental illness. MHAF works to improve mental health though advocacy, education, supportive services and legislation. Funds from the DoJiggy grant will be used to support the mental health HelpLine that includes: a web based listing of agencies and practitioners with self-reported specialty issues. Often those seeking help become frustrated when they can’t find the RIGHT provider to help them, and they don’t know where to turn. The HelpLine fills the gap by providing a beginning place for those seeking help. (last year more than 4000 people were served through calling HealthLine)
